Il gruppone iniziale degli "esperti designati" stava attraversando un periodo di "impasse", dopo settimane di feroci discussioni sull'inclusione di questo o quello. La situazione stava in effetti sconfinando nel ridicolo.
Il buon Peppe ed il sottoscritto abbiamo quanto meno avuto il pregio di essere (a quanto sembra) i più convinti nel portare in fondo quest'impresa (che poi impresa non dovrebbe essere... ma lo è diventata) e la lista che segue è opera dei nostri fervidi cervellini, pur rispecchiando in parte le
indicazioni iniziali di tutto il gruppo (oltre a noi due, M. Masoni, Matthias, napra e Lorici).
Abbiamo avuto semplicemente fornire un compendio di base, ma a più ampio raggio possibile, per chi si affaccia per la prima volta o quasi all'ascolto del Prog, senza subissarlo di vagonate di nomi e costringerlo a ricerche impossibili di titoli assolutamente irreperibili.
La lista si compone dunque delle seguenti parti:
- una lista dei gruppi storici più importanti, con indicati gli album fondamentali, senza i quali ha poco senso passare al resto.
- una lista di italiani.... perché siamo italiani ed è giusto dare una panoramica iniziale del prog del nostro paese, coi dischi fondamentali.
- liste di sotto-generi importanti (jazz rock, RIO, zeuhl...), con elencazione dei fondamentali.
- una lista dei "minori", ovvero di ottimi dischi di bands considerate, per un verso o per l'altro, di minore importanza storica. Ovviamente si tratta di una lista cui accedere dopo aver attinto dalle liste precedenti.
- liste di protoprog, hard prog e borderline, ovvero di quei gruppi appartenenti a correnti "laterali" che, pur rappresentando una valida documentazione di dove il prog può arrivare, o dei suoi punti di partenza, non rappresentano esempi tipici del genere.
